Interviews can be a great way to expand your professional network and learn more about a particular role. For this assignment, identify a nursing professional, who has a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (could be a Master's Degree in Nursing, DNP, or Ph.D. prepared nurse), working in a role that interests you and schedule a time to interview them. This person may be able to serve as your mentor when you reach NUR462 Capstone. Your 1- hour interview can be in person, by telephone, or video call. This is your 1-hour practice experience. Once you have completed your interview, you will develop a nursing profile for the person whom you interviewed. As an example, please review the profile of Madeleine Leininger; Madeleine Leininger, Nurse Anthropologist Making a World of Difference (Links to an external site.). Your nursing profile will be written in APA 7th edition style, so please be sure to review the writing resources provided this week. There are three sections to your interview. Your essay should include a title page and should have the following headings to correspond to the sections in the Essay Prompts and APA writing style; Introduction, Role and Credentials, Role Information, and Conclusions. If you have scholarly references, the in-text citations and reference list should also be in APA style. Essay Prompts: Role and Credentials: Ask the following questions to provide the role and credentials for the individual you interviewed. • What setting does the individual practice? (Be general, do not include the organization name, i.e., homecare, academics, small community hospital, academic medical center) • How long have they been practicing? • What is their area of clinical focus? • What nursing degrees do they hold? • Do they have any specialized certifications or education beyond their original undergraduate nursing coursework? • What degrees or certifications are typically required for entry into this role? Role Information: Identify 4-5 questions about their role that will help you understand if this role matches your own interests, skills, and values. Some example questions might include the following. (It is fine to use these questions or develop your own. If you develop questions, be sure to include them in your final essay): • What do they enjoy most about their work? • What advice would they provide a new Baccalaureate prepared nurse interested in their role? • What additional preparation will you need for the role (practicum focus, coursework, continuing education, certifications)? • How do they use evidence to support their practice? • What is their opinion on the future of professional nursing in their role? Conclusions: Your conclusions and insight gained into the professional role and your continued career interest in the role. • What aspects of this role match your interests, skills, and values? • What aspects do not match your own professional goals? • If you are still interested in this role, what will you do next to further your preparation for it? • If you are no longer interested in this role, as a result of your interview, what will you do next to continue your exploration of professional nursing role opportunities? Assignment Instructions The body of your paper should be 2-3 pages. Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to submit your work, click “Upload Submission.” Enter the submission title and then click on “Select a file to upload.” Browse your computer, and select your file. Click “Open” and verify the correct file name has appeared next to Submission File. Click on “Continue.” Confirm submission is correct and then click on “Accept Submission & Save.” Evaluation This assignment accounts for 30% of your final grade.
